Prof. Aguiar is a Professor at the Departamento de Genética, Ecologia e Evolução da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), and he is also an Associate Professor do Departamento de Genética da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He has experience in the area of Genetics, Cellular Biology and Microbiology in connection with Molecular Virology, focusing on projects that guarantee molecular interactions between viral and cellular factors and their role in viral pathogenesis. Prof. Aguiar has experience in epigenetics, regulation of genetics and genetics in viral models and the development of new antiviral agents. He works with HIV, HCV, SIV, Dengue, Chikungunya, Oropouche, Zika, Febre Amarela and most recently Mayaro, and has been a scientific consultant in research projects applied to HIV / AIDS in partnership with the Center of Disease Control (CDC, USA) and UFRJ in Moçambique and Angola.

Professor of Infectious Diseases & Reproductive Health of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Faculty of Infectious & Tropical Diseases; and the Head of the HIV Research Programme at the MCR/UVRI & LSHTM Research unit in Uganda, which he joined in 2019. He has worked in French Guiana and Dominica for four years. A clinician turned epidemiologist, Philippe has a particular interest in HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STI), and conducts several research projects in arbovirus epidemiology research in Brazil and China. Philippe holds honorary positions as a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Tropical Medicine of the University of Sao Paulo Medical School and the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.

He is based in Cali, Colombia, where he leads the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit of the Centro Internacional de Entrenamiento e Investigaciones Médicas (CIDEIM). He has had a leading role in the design and analysis of multiple cluster-randomized trials of interventions against the mosquito vectors of dengue. He is the theme leader for methodology in the UK Medical Research Council Tropical Epidemiology Group at LSHTM, and a member of the World Health Organization Vector Control Advisory Group (VCAG).

Assistant Professor and Sir Henry Wellcome Fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Dr. Brady’s research focuses on the global spatial distribution, spread and burden of mosquito-transmitted diseases using modern epidemiological mapping and modelling approaches. He has been a key member of large dengue (International Research Consortium on Dengue Risk Assessment, Management and Surveillance) and Zika (ZIKAlliance) EU-funded projects and works closely with Ministries of Health in South America and Asia. His involvement in CADDE will see the development of models fit to real-time surveillance data to predict the spatial spread of new epidemics.

Dr. Kath O’Reilly is an Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Dr O’Reilly is an epidemiologist who specialises in the use of statistical and mathematical models to assist in the development of control strategies for infectious diseases. She is particularly interested in viral diseases that are being targeted for elimination and eradication. Ongoing research includes application of modelling to polio eradication and vector-borne diseases such as Zika and dengue virus. Kath will be analysing epidemiological surveillance data from within CADDE and working with colleagues to understand and anticipate transmission of arboviruses.

Dr. Messina is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Geography and the Environment. She has a BA from the University of California, Los Angeles, an MS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a PhD from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Her doctoral research focused on the geography and epidemiology of HIV, malaria, and anaemia in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Janey has been a senior postdoctoral researcher with the Spatial Epidemiology and Ecology Group in the Department of Zoology, University of Oxford. She coordinated the group’s contribution to the International Research Consortium on Dengue Risk Assessment, Management and Surveillance, focusing her research on global patterns and drivers of dengue virus transmission, as well as potential changes in the landscape and epidemiology of the disease resulting from factors such as urbanisation, climate change and economic shifts.

Nelson Gouveia has a degree in Medicine (1986) from the Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil and an MSc in Epidemiology (1993) and a PhD in Public Health (1998) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of the University of London, UK. He is currently Professor at the Department of Preventive Medicine of the University of São Paulo Medical School where he teachs basic epidemiologic methods to graduate medical students and environmental epidemiology to post-graduate students. His research interests includes a wide variety of environmental exposures and its health effects such as ambient air pollution and climate change, and the utilization of geographic information systems (GIS) for exposure modeling in environmental epidemiology. Sarah is coordinating the activities related with whole-genome sequencing of yellow fever virus from human, non-human primates and different vector species in Brazil.

She graduated from Biomedicine at the Federal University of Alfenas, Minas Gerais, and has extensive experience in real-time, rapid detection and NGS sequencing of arboviruses in Brazil. Together with the Loman Lab, University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, she is working on the development of a new protocol for arboviral rapid detection using nanopore sequencing.

Darlan is interested in phylogenetics and phylogeography tools to recreate and understand the determinants of viral outbreaks and how this information can be translated into public policy recommendations. More specifically, his research focuses on recent arboviral outbreaks in Latin America (Zika, chikungunya, dengue and yellow fever viruses), combining genetic, spatial and ecological information. Darlan’s research is supported by the Oxford University Clarendon Fund and the Department of Zoology. He is currently a DPhil candidate at the Faria lab.
